Voiceover Terms Defined Voiceover/VO The voice of an unseen narrator, or of an onscreen character not seen speaking, in a movie or a television broadcast. Commercial A paid advertisement or promotional announcement. Corporate or industrial A presentation intended for use either within a company, business to business or business to consumer. Narration A message that tells the particulars of an act or occurrence or course of events; presented in writing or drama or cinema or as a radio or television program. Copywriting/ script Writing a compelling message that causes the listener or viewer to take action. The script is also called “copy”. Jingle/ musical signature A piece of verse or a short song having such a catchy succession of sounds, usually of a light or humorous character: an advertising jingle. Signature voice Serving to identify or distinguish a person, group, etc. On hold messages (on telephones with two or more lines) A feature that enables a person to maintain a connection on one line while hearing relevant information about that company. Imaging TV/RADIO/ PODCAST A mental representation; idea; conception. Station identifiers, audio signatures and positioning statements. e-learning Learning material presented through the web, or via a CD ROM. Flash presentation Utilizing Shockwave Flash as a means of capturing attention, and made more compelling by the use of voiceover. Digital editor The software used to record and edit audio or video productions. Advertising to give information to the public. To ask for a sale by placing a notice on radio or television. To call attention to yourself. Marketing The total of activities involved in the transfer of goods from the producer or seller to the consumer or buyer, including advertising, shipping, storing, and selling. Sales The exchange of goods or services for an amount of money or its equivalent. Podcast A Web-based audio broadcast via an RSS feed, accessed by subscription over the Internet. Kiosk audio An interactive computer terminal available for public use with site-specific information. Animation The process of preparing animated cartoons.
